The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association on Wednesday released its annual report on statewide licensure requirements for satellite installation contractors and technicians.

According to the report, six states - Alaska, California, Georgia, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia - currently require that a company (contractor or sub-contractor) be licensed, while Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico and Wyoming only require that the technician be licensed.

In terms of new changes, only Iowa passed licensing legislation, creating the Iowa State Electrical Examining Board and subsequent regulations. However, the bill specifically exempted the satellite industry and is expected to have no impact on satellite technicians and contractors working in the state, said the association.

Similar bills are being considered in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Wyoming while the cities of Philadelphia and New York have considered adopting new satellite licensing regulations, said SBCA.
