On Thursday, Time Warner Cable took the wraps off its proposed family tier, a programming package the cable operator plans to offer customers in early 2006. What's in the package?
Time Warner said the family tier will have 15 channels: Boomerang, C-SPAN 2, C-SPAN 3, CNN Headline News, Science Channel, Discovery Kids, Disney Channel, DIY Network, FIT-TV, Food Network, HGTV, La Familia, Nick Games and Sports, The Weather Channel and Toon Disney.
It's expected that the tier will sell for about $24 a month.
The Time Warner Cable effort came after pressure from lawmakers and the FCC to offer consumers family tiers. The tiers are meant to allow MSOs to offer programming outside of their basic packages that are deemed suitable for family viewing.
