News Briefs: C-Band Summit Rescheduled
CONFERENCES -- The data and time for the GVR C-band Summit has been changed due to a number of delegates scheduled to attend have expressed interest in attending the Satellite Fundamentals Workshop scheduled for the same time. The new date for the summit is Thursday, Sept. 27 from 2-4:30 p.m.
ENTERPRISE -- Orbital Data Net was awarded the satellite broadband contract for the State of Missouri. Under the agreement, ODN, a value-added reseller for both WildBlue and Encore Networks, will provide WildBlue internet service and Encore Networks' VSR family of VPN security routers to agencies throughout the state. The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Department of Natural Resources will be the first agencies to receive the WildBlue and Encore equipment, with additional agencies to follow. Financial details were not disclosed.
PROGRAMMING -- New Frontier Media entered an exclusive, long-term, multimillion dollar contract with Penthouse Media Group Inc to deliver Penthouse-branded adult television content in the U.S. Under terms of the deal, New Frontier will develop and launch a Penthouse-branded linear TV channel as well as a Penthouse video on-demand service to U.S. cable, satellite and IPTV operators.
RESEARCH -- According to the latest report from In-Stat, more than 80 percent of North Americans have plans to purchase a CE product this holiday season. The research firm said PCs will jump to the second spot this year, as both desktop and laptop PCs evolve into multimedia devices used for video viewing, music playback and imaging applications.
MISCELLANY -- Pace Electronics said it has acquired Olson's Trading Post and its 30,000-plus deep product offering. In addition to the purchase, Pace is expanding its current operations to include another 35,000 square-foot warehouse. Company officials said the combined 92 years of Pace and Trading Post operations makes Pace a company that customers know they can count on for the latest products, technology and technical sales support. Details of the acquisition and expansion were not disclosed.
