DIRECTV Launches "Starship" Blimp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Equipped with the world's largest LED screen, DIRECTV unveiled plans to launch a state-of-the-art blimp that will soar above the Boston Red Sox baseball stadium when they take on the Colorado Rockies during the World Series. Dubbed the DIRECTV HD Starship, the aircraft is an attempt to promote the company's high-definition channel lineup.

DIRECTV said the blimp is one of only two in the world installed with a high-def aerial camera system and the world's largest airborne LED video screen. The 2,100-square foot video screen will display DIRECTV HD ads and messaging nearly 1,000 feet above Boston's Fenway Park during baseball's championship series.

DIRECTV's flying billboard is part of a massive marketing campaign that includes national TV and print ads highlighting the company's recent HD expansion to 70 channels and the goal of broadcasting 100 by year's end. Operated by the Lightship Group, DIRECTV's blimp will also provide HD aerial camera shots for the Fox Sports broadcast of the series in Boston.

The DIRECTV HD Starship will also travel to NFL and college football games this season and NASCAR races next year, the company said.
